Leinster Leader July 15th 2009THE BOYCE ARE BACK IN TOWN:
At last the Hideout in Kilcullen has a new spring in its step as brothers Eamonn and Rory Boyce aim to breathe new life into the run down shell.
"The new exterior is just the start of the plans for this historic land mark in Kilcullen", explains Eamonn. "We want to return the Hideout to its former glory."As you can see we've started with the look of the building, given the exterior a new coat of paint, knocked three interior walls down, replaced over 100 light bulbs and given it a good clean. We started peeling back the layers of "modern" pictures, posters and partition walls and as we did we realised that underneath there was a rich wealth of history that hadn't seen the light of day for almost 50 years."
"We'd like to return more of the original features to the pub, it'd be great to have The Arm back!" "We were also looking through boxes full of old pictures, photos and newspaper articles of local events and heroes, we'd just that morning started to hang some of the pictures up in the bar when that very same day an old regular returned to the pub- JJ Whelan, he'd left Kilcullen almost 50 years ago to live in San Francisco. By bizarre coincidence on his return he was greeted with a picture of himself hanging in his old haunt. It was lovely to meet this gentleman and great that he could tell us about the picture and even name the other people in the photos."
